Deep Dive: Scorpion App Widgets
This guide explains how to create, configure, and manage App Widgets inside your Scorpion App. Widgets allow you to embed specific Scorpion experiences or external tools directly into the Scorpion exam environment.
1. Where to Find App Widgets
Widgets are managed inside the Content section of your Scorpion App.
Navigate to:
https://scorpion.caveon.com/apps/<app_id>/settings
Scroll down to the Content section and click “Add a Widget”.
2. Adding a New Widget
Click Add a Widget.
This opens a modal allowing you to define the widget type and URL.
The modal includes:
- Type – Choose what kind of widget you are adding.
- URL – The location your widget will load when triggered.
Click Add Widget to continue.
3. Available Widget Types
Scorpion supports the following widget categories:
3.1 Take Widget (Most Common)
Appears inside the Scorpion Take exam interface.
Use cases: - Embedding external tools - Integrating calculators, reference pages, or custom UI - Enhancing candidate experience during a delivery
3.2 Delivery Widget
Appears within a specific delivery context.
Useful for: - Delivery-level detail views - Administrative or support tools
3.3 Export Widget
Used for exporting content or data.
3.4 Item Widget
Used inside Scorpion’s item authoring or review environments.
3.5 Full Page App
Creates a full-sized embedded application accessible directly from the Scorpion interface.
Useful for: - Dashboards - Management portals - External LTI-like applications
4. Configuring a Widget After Creation
Once you’ve added the widget, you will see options to further configure it.
Options include:
- Type – Choose what kind of widget you are adding.
- URL field – The URL your widget will load
- Icon selector – Choose which icon appears in the UI when users access your widget
There are dozens of icons available for clarity and branding.
After selecting your icon and confirming the URL, click Save.
5. Widget Behavior Notes
5.1 Authentication Requirements
Widgets typically rely on your app’s authentication, so ensure: - Your app’s permissions match the widget’s purpose - Your widget endpoint can validate and handle authenticated requests
5.2 URL Requirements
Your widget’s URL should: - Use https:// - Be accessible to Scorpion’s servers - Support the expected interaction model
5.3 Take Widget Placement
Take widgets appear directly inside the Scorpion test-taking interface.
These are the most frequently used widgets.
6. Saving Your Widget
After selecting the widget type, specifying the URL, and choosing your icon:
- Click Save inside the widget box.
- Then click Save at the top of the App page.
Your widget is now active and ready for use.
